Le Champ NZ Prosecco
Le Champ – French for bubble.
Spade Oak Le Champ New Zealand Prosecco is Gisborne grown. Prosecco is an Italian wine region, which shares the same name as the grape variety, This will need to change to Glera in 3 -4 vintages due to the NZ/EU trade agreement. The Prosecco style is lower in alcohol, lower in gas, slightly sweeter, less complex/savory and fruitier than the traditional champagne styles. Different in that it boasts a crown seal rather than cork. I predict Prosecco will find a new, natural, harmonious home in the clay soils and warm climate of Gisborne. This wine shows lemon and green apple on the palate, the off dry sweetness is balanced with acidity. The creamy mousse is perfect as a weekend breakfast treat, lunch time refresher or aperitif to enjoy with canapes, tapas, and antipasto. The style is the traditional base for Aperol Spritz or at cocktail time, as a Peach Bellini. Colour: light lime pale in colour with a fine creamy bubble. Aromas: Green apple, bubble gum and peachy stone fruit Palate: Off dry, fresh, and clean flavours of lemon and green apples. A tantalising lingering palate cleansing finish.
